Seth Caines, Meredith Sutton and Moriah Brown stretch out to use a floating sieve to gather a water sample in the Elkhorn River on July 2. The trio is working with Shannon Bartlet-Hunt, department chair and professor of civil and environmental engineering, researching textiles as a source of microplastic fibers found in streams across the Cornhusker State.

Caines is a McNair Scholar and a junior biological systems engineering major. Sutton is a graduate student in civil and environmental engineering. And, Brown is a summer research scholar visiting from Howard University.
