Sensitively attuned to its protagonist’s quest, “Return to Seoul” is opening at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center March 24.

Continuing is “The Quiet Girl.”

“Return to Seoul” uses one woman’s story to explore universal truths about the human condition. After an impulsive travel decision to visit friends, Freddie, 25, returns to South Korea for the first time, where she was born before being adopted and raised in France. Freddie suddenly finds herself embarking on an unexpected journey in a country she knows so little about, taking her life in new and unexpected directions.

The film is showing at the Ross through April 6. It is rated R.

“The Quiet Girl” is set in rural Ireland and 1981. Nine-year-old Cait is sent away from her overcrowded, dysfunctional family to live with foster parents for the summer. Quietly struggling at school and at home, Cait has learned to hide in plain sight from those around her. She blossoms in their care, but in this house, where there are meant to be no secrets, she discovers one painful truth.

“The Quiet Girl,” rated PG-13, is showing through March 30.
