Registration is now open for two educational hops workshops held May 31 on East Campus. Hosted by the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, the workshops are free and open to the public.

Introductory Hop Growers Workshop

An Introductory Hop Growers Workshop will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. May 31 in Plant Sciences Hall, Room 199. The informative workshop is suitable for those with no previous knowledge in hop culture.

Hop cones are an essential part of the flavoring and bittering of craft beer. The workshop will provide information about how to grow them, as well as considerations before moving forward into production of the plant.

Attendees can also participate in a walking tour of Nebraska’s on-campus hop yard.

Registration is available here.

Hop Training Field Program

A Hop Training Field Program will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. May 31 in Plant Sciences Hall, Room 199.

The program will focus on hop trellising and training, as well as plant health concerns, pest control and nutrition for the production season.

The workshop will also discuss Nebraska’s seasonal weather conditions, one of the most challenging components of maximizing hop cultivar productivity. Participants will tour the university hop yard during the event.

Registration is available here.
