The ninth season of the Nebraska Alumni Association’s Football Fridays kicks off Sept. 1 at the Wick Alumni Center’s Holling Garden, 1520 R St.

The events, which are free and open to the public, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 1 and 22 and Oct. 6 and 13 at the alumni center. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

The featured speaker for the first 2017 Football Friday is Nebraska wrestling coach Mark Manning. Local media members Steve Sipple (Lincoln Journal Star) and Brian Rosenthal (Huskers.com) and former Huskers Blake Lawrence (linebacker, 2007-2009) and Tony Veland (free safety, 1992-1995) will preview Nebraska’s season opener and answer fans’ questions about the team. Greg Sharpe of the Husker Sports Network will be the emcee.

Football Fridays also include children’s games, prizes and performances by the Husker Spirit Squad and pep band. Family Night is planned for homecoming weekend on Sept. 22, featuring the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, Lincoln Children’s Museum and University of Nebraska State Museum.
