Writer-director Pedro Almodóvar’s new film “Pain and Glory” opens Nov. 15 at the University of Nebraska-Lincolns Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

Almodóvar draws on his own life in “Pain and Glory,” telling a series of reencounters experienced by Salvador Mallo, a film director in his physical decline. In recovering his past, Mallo finds the urgent need to recount it, and in that need, he also finds his salvation.

With writing as the only therapy to forget the unforgettable, Mallo struggles to fill the infinite void that creates the incapacity to keep on making films.

“Pain and Glory,” which is rated R for drug use, some graphic nudity and language, shows through Nov. 28.
