The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host ‘Our Nebraska,’ an annual weeklong celebration of inclusion, March 5-10.

Events held during the week emphasize the theme of “Empowering Every Story” and encourage students, faculty and staff to learn about themselves while finding strength in individuality. All events are free.

New this year, the Association of Students of the University of Nebraska’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee has partnered to host Friends Without Borders on March 9. The program is focused on creating lasting relationships between international and domestic students.

“Our Nebraska” is sponsored by Student Affairs, OASIS, the Diversity Council, ASUN, the College of Law and many recognized student organizations. The “Our Nebraska” schedule includes:

March 5

11:30 a.m. — World Café Conversations, Nebraska Union, Centennial Room: Similar to discussions at Husker Dialogues, these conversations invite students, faculty and staff to get to know more about themselves and the campus community. March 6

11:30 a.m. — Misconstrued Identities panel discussion, College of Law, Auditorium: Attendees will learn how to handle misconstrued identities and share strategies for educating others on identities. Lunch provided by Raising Cane’s.

March 8

7 p.m. — Express Yourself Expo, Nebraska Union, Auditorium: Artists and performers sharing personal stories about what defines them. An art exhibition and refreshments will also be available starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Heritage Room.

March 9

9:30 a.m. — Faculty/Staff Education Session, Nebraska Union, Georgian Suite: Cammy Watkins, Inclusive Communities, will lead a 90-minute discussion on identity and facilitating difficult dialogue. Participants will consider how identity and culture impact one’s perspectives and interactions with others. The group will then discuss how identities can cause barriers to understanding those different than us.

7 p.m. — Friends Without Borders Movie Night, Nebraska Union, Regency Room: Hosted by the ASUN Diversity and Inclusion Committee, this event invites international and domestic students to get to know one another while watching the film “Marshall” and enjoying snacks and games.

March 10

Noon — Friends Without Borders: Icebreakers and Capitol Tour, Nebraska Union, Colonial Room: Hosted by the ASUN Diversity and Inclusion Committee, this event invites international and domestic students to get to know one another through partner games, icebreakers and a tour of the Nebraska State Capitol Building. This event, with the tour, is expected to take three hours.
