The university has partnered with United Healthcare Student Resources to provide insurance coverage options to students.

The voluntary enrollment period for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s student insurance plan ends at midnight Sept. 10.

United Healthcare was selected in April. The switch was made due to curtail increasing premiums and out-of-pocket costs to students using the previous plan.

The university will hold two Student Insurance 101 informational sessions on the lower level of the University Health Center. The events will include free pizza and an opportunity to ask questions. Sessions are 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Aug. 30; and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Aug. 31. No RSVP is required.

To enroll for the fall semester, which includes coverage from Aug. 1 to Dec. 31, students should log into MyRed, select the “Profile” tab and choose “Health Insurance.”

Highlights of the medical, mental health, prescription and dental plan include:

  • 100 percent coverage for most medically necessary services at the University Health Center

  • $500 annual deductible (in network)

  • Prescription copays as low as $5

  • $1,000 dental coverage

  • Plan pays 80 percent for medical services in network

  • Plan can be used anywhere nationwide wherever United Healthcare is accepted

Enrollment eligibility includes undergraduate or graduate students taking six or more credits in a degree program and all degree-seeking international students. All degree-seeking international students will be auto-enrolled unless proof of other coverage is provided and a waiver is signed.

The credit hour limit does not apply to graduate assistants; degree-seeking master’s graduate students and doctoral students enrolled in one or two credit hours to complete a thesis; all visiting scholars if approved by the university; intensive English program students; and new degree-seeking students who started in the summer have a three-hour minimum credit hour requirement.
