'On Her Shoulders' director to attend Ross screening
The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center will host director, cinematographer and editor Alexandria Bombach for a question-and-answer session following the 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 screening of “On Her Shoulders.”
The event, sponsored by UPC Nebraska and the Ross, is free for University of Nebraska–Lincoln students with a valid NCard and regular admission for faculty, staff and the public. The screening is part of the Norman A. Geske Cinema Showcase.
In the documentary “On Her Shoulders,” the life of 23-year-old Nadia Murad is a dizzying array of exhausting undertakings — from giving testimony before the United Nations to visiting refugee camps to soul-bearing media interviews and one-on-one meetings with top government officials. With deep compassion and a formal precision and elegance that matches Murad’s calm and steely demeanor, Bombach follows this strong-willed young woman who survived the 2014 genocide of the Yazidis in Northern Iraq and escaped the hands of ISIS to become a relentless beacon of hope for her people.
“On Her Shoulders,” which is not rated, shows Feb. 15-21 at the Ross.
Also opening Feb. 15 is "Capernaum." Playing through Feb. 21, "Capernaum" follows the journey of a clever, gutsy 12-year-old boy named Zain as he survives the dangers of the city streets after fleeing from his parents. To assert his rights, he takes them to court, suing them for the “crime” of giving him life.
"Capernaum" is rated R for language and some drug material.
