NU State Museum caps 150th year with Archie’s Party
The University of Nebraska State Museum’s 150th anniversary year will culminate with Archie’s Party at Morrill Hall. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 18, visitors can explore the museum and participate in a variety of activities, crafts and learning stations.
“We appreciate the support our members and community provided us during our 150th anniversary,” said Susan Weller, director of the NU State Museum. “We look forward to sharing our thanks and giving back during our annual Archie’s Party event.”
This year, Archie’s Party will include a drive for People’s City Mission. Any guest who brings a “birthday present” to donate will receive a raffle ticket for prizes. The mission’s most-desired items include bubbles, sunscreen, chalk, diapers, T-shirts, pillows and towels.
Other party highlights include: the excavation of a rhino jaw and Titanothere skull by paleontologists in the Visible Lab; a museumwide scavenger hunt for hidden presents; the creation and decoration of elephant masks; Japanese tea tasting and traditional fan painting with the Kawasaki Reading Room; and a fossil sandbox. Guests can also collect eight free vintage postcards at select stations as a party favor.
Archie’s Party activities are included with admission to Morrill Hall. Museum members will receive free admission to the event. All other museum discounted rates will apply including senior; veteran; Blue Star Museums – free admission for active-duty military and their families, including National Guard and Reserves, up to a party of six; and Museums for All – $1 admission for families qualifying for Electronic Benefits Transfer cards or Women, Infants and Children.
