New, expanding librarian roles is topic of April 7 lecture

UNL Libraries invites members of the campus to attend its 2015 Visiting Scholar lecture at 10:30 a.m. April 7 in the Nebraska Union, Georgian Room.

Trevor A. Dawes, associate university librarian at Washington University in St. Louis, and the past president of the Association of College and Research Libraries, will discuss the new and expanded roles that librarians are assuming. He will also give the lecture. In addition, there will be a panel discussion from 2-3 p.m. in Love Library, Room 110. Dawes, along with several Nebraska academic librarians, will discuss recent changes that have taken place at their libraries.

Dawes will talk about the ARL study “Transforming Liaison Roles in Research Libraries,” which indicates changes in the role of the liaison librarian from someone who develops the collection, staffs a reference desk and conducts instruction sessions, to a role that meets the changing needs of faculty and students in an academic environment.

Other studies in the ARL series include: Digital Curation for Preservation and Library Services for Graduate Students. To review these studies, go to http://www.arl.org/publications-resources#.VOzeWY3wuUk.
