Mary Emery, director of Rural Prosperity Nebraska, recently talked with RFD-TV about a University of Nebraska–Lincoln led program that will establish 12 Regional Food Business Centers to help strengthen local food supply chains.

Announced May 3, the project is funded by a $25 million award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The university will host the Heartland Regional Foods Business Center (one of 12 national centers that will be created). The Heartland center will serve Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Iowa. Rural Prosperity Nebraska, a UNL-based hub that connects Nebraska communities with university faculty, students and additional resources, is leading the project in cooperation with 33 partners.
