This quilt, named "Hollywood," is one of the designs featured in the Aug. 5 First Friday lecture at UNL's International Quilt Study Center and Museum.

The International Quilt Study Center and Museum is offering an inside look at its Mountain Mist Quilt Collection.

Linda Pumphrey, guest curator for the museum’s “Inside the Wrapper: The True Tales of the Mountain Mist Quilt Patterns” exhibition, will deliver an in-depth look at the collection and exhibition in a 5:30 p.m. Aug. 5 talk at the museum. The First Friday presentation, which is free and open to the public, will include refreshments and free museum admission from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

“I hope that viewers will learn about the stories behind the quilts and understand the long term commitment Mountain Mist had for the industry,” Pumphrey said. “Viewers will see how the company realized early on the importance of the relationship with customers and with the department stores.”

Pumphrey has more than 25 years of experience in the quilting industry. Recently back with the brand that started her career, she is senior account executive for Fibrix, makers of Mountain Mist batting.

In addition to being an active member of the quilt industry and nonprofit sector, Pumphrey is an award-winning quilter. Her love of quilting grew from her mother and her grandmothers, a legacy that spans five generations of quilters. The Pumphrey Family Gallery, located on the museum’s first floor, is a testament of her family’s love of quilting.

Pumphrey has served as a member of the International Quilt Study Center and Museum International Advisory Board since 2010. She is the acquisitions committee coordinator for the museum.
