‘Moods and Dreams’ opens Flyover New Music Series

Westbrook Music Building

The Glenn Korff School of Music will open the second season of its Flyover New Music Series with a recital, “Moods and Dreams,” 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Westbrook Music Builiding. The performance is free and open to the public.

The first performance of the series will feature a colorful and diverse music selection, including jazz quartet, steel pan and tango. “Moods and Dreams” is meant to explore states of mind and emotion, whether in the composers themselves or in those around them.

“This variety is one of my favorite traits of ‘Flyover” — the feeling that you never know what you will hear,” said Gregory Simon, assistant professor of composition. “In the absence of a common instrumentation, composer, or other curated theme, listeners are challenged to find their own through-lines in each concert.”

The Flyover New Music Series, which was launched last year, is the only concert series at the School of Music in which students are the core of not only the music, but also the production. Student volunteers compose and perform all music, as well as organizing all performances.
