Known for his welcoming smile to all Huskers (and visitors) to the University Bookstore, and always being ready for a chat, Ian McLean is retiring after 16 years of service on campus.

A retirement reception for McLean is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 24 at the bookstore in Nebraska Union.

In a 2015 Nebraska Today feature, McClean said he had found contentment in working in the bookstore — something that came on the heels of successful careers in education and ministry.

“I know people come in here to just get things like cupcakes or coffee, but I want them to have a good experience,” McLean said. “I love to interact with others and giving them great customer service brings me joy.”

McLean’s retirement reception is free and open to the entire campus community.
