McFadden to discuss rural substance use May 9

Lisa McFadden will give a virtual talk on “Substance Use and the Influence on Rurality,” at 1:30 p.m. May 9 via Zoom. The event is free and open to the public.

Participants must register for the Zoom link.

In the seminar, she will focus on exploring the intersection between the COVID-19 pandemic and rurality in relation to substance use disorders. This talk will focus on the challenges and strengths of rural communities in the Midwest when it comes to supporting individuals with substance use disorders.

McFadden is an associate professor within the Division of Basic Biomedical Sciences at the Sanford School of Medicine. She is also the co-director of the SPURA undergraduate research fellowship program sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the G-RISE program sponsored by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. Her laboratory’s research focuses on substance use disorders.
