A celebration of the impact of volleyball on the Cornhusker State will include a concert headlined by country music hitmaker Scotty McCreery.

The “Volleyball Day in Nebraska” celebration is Aug. 30 in Memorial Stadium. It will feature a volleyball doubleheader pitting the Huskers against the University of Nebraska at Omaha at 7 p.m., and the University of Nebraska at Kearney versus Wayne State College at 4:30 p.m. The concert will follow the matches.

The celebration will be McCreery’s second performance in Memorial Stadium, as he sang the National Anthem before Nebraska football’s 56-7 win over Northwestern on Oct. 2, 2021.

McCreery’s career burst onto the national music scene in 2011 at age 17 after winning “American Idol.” He has achieved five consecutive No. 1 hits in recent years. Four of his albums have debuted at No. 1 on a Billboard Albums chart, with current combined sales surpassing 4 million copies. And, in the last two years, he has executive produced two Hallmark holiday movies based on his triple-platinum No. 1 hit, “Five More Minutes.”

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will also consider alcohol sales for the event during their June 22 meeting.

Volleyball Day in Nebraska sponsors include FNBO, Ameritas and Woodhouse. The concert is presented by Adidas.
