March First Friday events set

Several UNL museums and galleries will offer visitors extended hours, free admission and activities on March 7 in conjunction with Lincoln’s First Friday festivities. From City Campus to East Campus, art lovers will have a variety of offerings available. Share what you see with #UNLMuseums.

International Quilt Study Center and Museum, 33rd and Holdrege streets – “Design Dynamics of Log Cabin Quilts” and “Fifth Annual UNL Quilt Show” are open now at the Quilt Museum; 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R streets –The galleries of “ArtWork: Art and Labor” become the site of a scavenger hunt celebrating Women’s History Month. The free event is part of the museum’s First Friday reception. Prizes will be awarded to those with keen observation skills. No previous knowledge of art or art history is necessary to participate; 5 to 7 p.m.

College of Journalism and Mass Communications (at The Coffee House, 1327 P St.) – Thirty photographs from 13 journalism students is the result of a depth-reporting project to the Dominican Republic during winter break. “Two Wings to Fly: Stories of fear, hope and economics in the Dominican Republic” tells a variety of stories, from sex workers to teen pregnancy; baseball hopefuls to cockfighting; and many more. Students who participated in the depth-reporting project are Jake Crandall, Andrew Dickinson, Kaylee Everly, Jennifer Gotrik, Anna Gronewold, Nickolai Hammar, Matt Masin, Joseph Moore, Anna Reed, Faiz Siddiqui, Brianna Soukup, Cara Wilwerding and Shelby Wolfe; 6 to 8 p.m.
