Lied program allows students to learn from Broadway professionals

Lied Center for Performing Arts

The Lied Center for Performing Arts is offering its inaugural Triple Threat Broadway Summer Intensive, June 4-6, for high school students hoping to build their skills with the help of seasoned Broadway professionals.

The intensive will provide students opportunities to learn from professionals in music, dance and acting. The program is geared toward intermediate and advanced students seriously interested in building their performance skills and pursuing a career in musical theater.

This year’s faculty includes Jason Michael Webb, composer, arranger and veteran music director for Broadway productions, including the Tony Award-winning revival of “The Color Purple”; and Ruben Del Valle Jr., a musical theater artist who appeared in “The Lion King” on Broadway as Young Simba. Additional faculty will be announced throughout the spring.

“We are excited to use our connections from the Broadway world to bring a new musical theater-oriented experience to the community,” said Erin Poor, the Lied’s education and community engagement director. “This new program is a perfect fit with our mission to educate and inspire at the Lied Center, and we are thrilled to bring it to Lincoln.”

Registration is open through May 1. The fee is $150. A limited number of scholarships are available. Interested students should email Sasha Dobson, Lied outreach coordinator, at sdobson3@unl.edu.
