“Kinds of Kindness,” a dark anthology featuring three unsettling stories from director Yorgos Lanthimos, opens July 3 at Nebraska’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

Continuing to show is “Daddio,” a drama about an epic journey sparked by a chat in a New York City taxi.

A triptych fable, “Kinds of Kindness” follows a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman alarmed that his wife, who was missing at sea, has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability and destined to become a spiritual leader.

The film, which features Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons and Willem Dafoe, shows through July 18. It is rated R for strong/disturbing violent content, strong sexual content, full nudity and language.

“Daddio” features Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn.

Landing at New York’s JFK airport after a trip, Girlie (played by Johnson) strikes up a conversation with Clark, the cab driver (Penn), on the drive to her Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. Talkative and generous with advice, Clark offers his take on relationships, the changing demographics of New York, and what he hears from Girlie about her life.

During the drive, the duo discovers common ground that helps each see the other’s point of view — and draws them closer to figuring out themselves.

Directed by Christy Hall, “Daddio” is rated R for language, sexual material and brief graphic nudity. The film shows through July 11 at the Ross.
