The 27th season of Jazz in June rolls into its second week with a June 12 performance by Jazzmeia Horn.

The New York-based performer is a gifted jazz vocalist with an inventive, scat-influences style. After high school, Horn honed her skills studying at Manhattan’s New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. She received DownBeat Student Music Awards in 2008 and 2009.

She is winner of the 2013 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition and the 2015 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Vocals Competition. In 2017, Horn released her debut album, “A Social Call,” which received a Grammy nomination for best jazz vocal album.

The Sheldon Museum of Art hosts Jazz in June each Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.

Concerts are at 7 p.m. each Tuesday in June in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s sculpture garden west of the Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th and R streets. The concert series is free, but attendees are encouraged to make a donation of $10 per family to help ensure its continuation.
