Alexis Jones, an international speaker focused on helping girls develop self-confidence and educating male athletes about respecting women, will visit the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for a 7:30 p.m. March 29 discussion in the Willa Cather Dining Complex Red Cloud Suite.

The event, organized by UPC Nebraska and University Housing, is free for students (with valid NCard) and $5 for all others.

Jones, a Texas native, is founder of I Am That Girl, a nonprofit organization that assists young women in developing self-confidence, transforming doubt into self-love and providing a safe space that allows participants to engage in important conversations. More than 1.2 million young women are involved in I Am That Girl programs in more than 20 countries. She also created ProtectHer, a program developed to teach high school and college male athletes the importance of respecting women.

Jones is an internationally recognized speaker, media personality, activist and author. She grew up as a tomboy in Texas with four older brothers, before earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Southern California. She also worked for Fox Sports and ESPN.

Her work with male athletes is outlined in a popular TEDx talk filmed at the University of Nevada. Rather than villainizing men, Jones invites, includes and inspires both men and women to be an integral and tangible part of the solution moving forward.
