Hosts, students sought for ‘Dinner in a Nebraska Home’

The International Student and Scholar Office will host Dinner in a Nebraska Home this fall. Faculty and staff are invited to participate.

Dinner in a Nebraska Home is an opportunity for international students to learn about different cultures while enjoying homemade food and connecting with faculty and staff outside the classroom.

“The informal environment allows students to be more comfortable and for us to have good discussions,” said Rachel Ayalon, a past participant and organizer of the program. “It’s a nice time for us to talk outside of an academic setting.”

Students in groups of three are assigned to faculty/staff hosts based on availability, dietary restrictions, access to transportation and fears/allergies related to pets. Students and hosts will first meet at an introductory reception organized by the International Student and Scholar Office, and then coordinate among themselves to arrange the dinner at home within three weeks.

“My bond with my hosts didn’t end after the reception and dinner,” said Tamayo Zhou, a past program participant. “My hosts taught me American cultures and made Lincoln feel like home for me.”

Registration for Dinner in a Nebraska Home is open through Nov. 11.
