Krista Hoover’s CliftonStrengths — harmony, responsibility, consistency, positivity and discipline — are ideally suited for her to provide first-rate human resources support to faculty and staff in the College of Business.

Hoover has served the college community for 17 years — since 2012 as a personnel associate, and as an office associate before. Her current areas of responsibility include supporting the college’s recruitment and search processes; communicating about human resources policy updates; human resources reporting; payroll and personnel actions; and time entry and reporting.

“Krista helps to get the right people in the right job at the right time and with the right pay,” Hoover’s nominator wrote. “Through her competence, dedication and sense of pride in her work, she represents the best of what a staff member can contribute to the university.”

Hoover was also praised for her ability to shift to remote work and new tools/processes put into place through the global pandemic.

“She took on extra work and just kept showing up to make sure the job got done,” the nominator wrote. “I consistently hear from others how positive, helpful and considerate she is.”

The Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Women reached out to get to know Hoover and learn more about her dedication to students, faculty and staff at Nebraska U. Her interview follows.

Tell us more about yourself.

I grew up in Hastings and moved to Lincoln after college. I have been here for about 25 years now. I was married for almost 19 years and unfortunately, my husband passed away in 2018. I have a daughter, Jadyn,a junior at Southwest High School, whom I’m very close to. We have a dog named Gracie who is 2 years old and keeps us on our toes. I’m the oldest of three siblings and I have a niece and five nephews.

What do you look forward to when you come to work?

I love the people I work with, I feel valued and supported.

What is your favorite memory at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

I would have to say the connections I’ve made. I’m very fortunate to work with such great people.

What is your life like outside of work?

I love to spend time with my family, read books, take my dog for walks, go to movies or watch Netflix. I love going to Galveston Island as it’s drivable and you still get a beach experience.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I broke my arm when I was in fifth grade.
