Honorees named, registration open for annual diversity awards

The University Libraries provides course reserves services via Canvas in support of teaching and learning. The goal of this program is to ensure all students have seamless access to affordable course materials through Canvas.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will honor six individuals and one student organization during its third annual Nebraska Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Awards ceremony on April 10.

Organized by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the awards recognize individuals and groups who actively advance diversity, equity and inclusion in transformative and sustainable ways on campus and in the community.

The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. with a small reception, followed by the awards presentation, in the Nebraska East Union’s Great Plains Room. The event will also be livestreamed. Registration, which is required to attend, is available here.

Recipients of the 2023 awards are:

  • Diversity Leadership Faculty Award — Chad Brassil, associate professor, Biological Sciences

  • Diversity Leadership Staff Award — Markeya Peteranetz, assistant director of assessment and analytics, Engineering

  • Diversity Leadership Alumni Award — Jose Soto

  • Promising Leader Award: Undergraduate Student — Daelyn Zagurski, senior, Fisheries and Wildlife

“This year we received an unprecedented number of nominations — our review committee dedicated many hours to reviewing nominations of individuals and groups whose practices, research and commitment to inclusive excellence expands across our institution and beyond,” said Nkenge Friday, senior assistant vice chancellor for strategic initiatives. “We also broadened our awards to include two new categories — Diversity Leadership Alumni Award and Diversity Community Impact Award — that highlight the transformative impact within our local community and our alumni leaders.”
