Great Plains Art Museum to host LPS student artwork

The Great Plains Art Museum will host the Lincoln Public Schools Visual Arts Mentoring Program Exhibition this spring.

The exhibition runs April 17 through May 18 in the museum’s lower-level lobby. The student work will be shown in two groups: The first group’s art will be on view April 17-28, and the second group’s art will be on exhibit May 4-18.

The mentoring program serves students in grades 1-5 who demonstrate exceptional abilities in the visual arts, including drawing, painting and other media.

Students who are selected for the program have the opportunity to work with an art mentor two hours each week during the school day. In addition, they have two hours to work independently on their art. This studio time also occurs during the school day and is monitored by school staff. Students are encouraged to move at their own pace and work on areas of personal interest.

The Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q St., is open to the public 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free. Free guided tours are available at other times upon request. Request a tour.
