‘Good Boss’ opens Sept. 9 at the Ross

Led by Javier Bardem’s charismatic performance and writer-director Fernando León de Aranoa’s sharp humor, “The Good Boss,” a workplace satire worthy of promotion, opens Sept. 9 at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. Also continuing to show is “Resurrection.”

“The Good Boss” tells the story of Básculas Blanco, a Spanish company producing industrial scales in a provincial Spanish town, that awaits the imminent visit from a committee which holds its fate in their hands as to whether they merit a local Business Excellence award. Everything has to be perfect when the time comes. Working against the clock, the company’s proprietor, Blanco (played by Javier Bardem) pulls out all the stops to address and resolve issues with his employees, crossing every imaginable line in the process.

“The Good Boss,” which is not rated, shows through Sept. 22.

“Resurrection” tells the story of Margaret’s orderly life. Soon, her teenage daughter, who Margaret raised by herself, will be going off to a fine university, just as Margaret had intended. Everything is under control. That is, until David, the father of Margaret’s daughter returns, bringing with him the horrors of the past.

“Resurrection,” which is not rated, shows through Sept. 15.
