Garden tours of Maxwell Arboretum start June 7

Celebrate UNL's Maxwell Arboretum

Monthly walking tours of green spaces on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s East Campus are being held the first Tuesday of each month starting June 7 and ending on Nov. 1.

The tours, which explore Earl G. Maxwell Arboretum, are noon to 1 p.m. and led by Emily Levine, special projects research horticulturist.

Partipants will focus on examining woody and herbaceous plants up close and follow their seasonal changes. Cultural and historical aspects of the plants will be discussed, as well.

The tours are free and open to the public. Participants will meet at the Karl Loerch Gazebo, one block east of the Dairy Store.

The meeting place may change due to construction in the arboretum this season. Check out the UNL Gardens Facebook page and website for updates. The participants will meet at Perin Porch some months.

Other tour dates are July 5, Aug. 2, Sept. 6, Oct. 4 and Nov. 1. Rain dates will be the following Tuesdays.

Learn more about the tours on the UNL Gardens webpage.

Emily Levine is research horticulturist for the Community Landscape and Forest Health bureau of the Nebraska Forest Service, and former grounds supervisor of Maxwell Arboretum
