The Nebraska Forest Service is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Forestry Hall.

The celebration is noon to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 20 by the Heuermann Clock Tower on the north side of the Nebraska East Union. Smokey Bear will attend in celebration of his 75th birthday. The event will include complimentary Dairy Store ice cream and cupcakes.

John Erixson, state forester, said the event will celebrate the legacy of the building and the history of the Nebraska Forest Service headquarters.

“Celebrating the 100-year history of Forestry Hall recognizes the impact the many students, faculty, and staff who have walked the halls of this historic building,” Erixson said. “We are honored to call this building home, the legacy of the many who passed through these halls before us have had such a great impact on Nebraska’s trees and forest.”

Organizers will use the hashtag #ForestryHall100 for the event. Participants who post on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag will be entered into a drawing for a free Nebraska Forestry Service T-shirt.
