Finalists for transformative teaching director announced

Graduate students have been acknowledged for their great work in the classroom and in their research.

Two finalists for director of the Center for Transformative Teaching have been announced by the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor.

The candidates were selected through a national search and will visit the university June 12 and 13. They will participate in an all-day interview followed by a public presentation at 3 p.m. each day in 308 Brace Laboratory, 510 Stadium Drive. All are welcome to attend.

Luke Millard, director of education development service at Birmingham City University, will visit the university on June 12. Millard leads institutional initiatives on student retention and success, students as academic partners and graduate employability. He also leads a variety of teams enabling faculty development, technology enhanced learning and teaching, student development and quality enhancement activities.

Millard has been with Birmingham since 2008 and has served in different roles focused on learning and student engagement. He has also written and spoken widely on student engagement.

Nicholas Monk, director of the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning and professor of English at University of Warwick, will visit the university June 13. He co-founded the institute, an interdisciplinary teaching and learning body created to innovate in practical ways in higher education, in 2010. He is also the co-founder of Open-space Learning at Warwick, which seeks to empower students in the co-creation of knowledge with academics.

Monk’s scholarly interests include interdisciplinary teaching and learning, student research and international collaboration. He has shared his research at numerous workshops and conferences around the world.
