NUtech Ventures will host a free webinar at noon Feb. 11 titled “Inventorship 101: Who Is (and Is Not) an Inventor?” The webinar is open to all Nebraska researchers, who can learn more and register here.
Guest speaker Karthika Perumal, partner at Womble Bond Dickinson law firm, will discuss the statutory basis of inventorship, the court decisions shaping this body of law, and what acts are insufficient to be an inventor.
Why does inventorship matter? Not all authors of a scientific article are considered inventors on a patent that contains content from the article, making it critical to distinguish the legal term “inventor” from the subjective term “author.” Improper naming of patent inventors can jeopardize patent ownership. It can also be construed as fraud, rendering a patent invalid and unenforceable.
Those who are new to intellectual property, or would like a refresher, are invited to watch NUtech’s introductory webinar or visit the United States Patent & Trademark website to learn more.
