Family Weekend at Nebraska kicks off Sept. 20

Family Weekend

Parents and families of students at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln are invited to join in on the festivities of this year’s Family Weekend, slated to run from Sept. 20 through Sept. 22.

The two-day event, hosted by Student Affairs, is free for all families and students.

“Parents and family members are critical partners in students’ education,” said TJ McDowell, assistant vice chancellor of Student Affairs. “Family Weekend is a great opportunity for attendees to connect with students in their atmosphere, get to know other Husker families and participate in a variety of fun activities together.”

Those wishing to attend can register here. A substantial amount of walking is involved, and participants with small children or family members who need assistance with walking may find a stroller or wheelchair to be helpful.

This weekend’s highlights include:

Comedy mentalist Sean Bott

With appearances on HBO, the Sci-Fi Channel, the CW and NBC, Bott’s innovative and distrinct brand of comedy mentalism has enthralled audiences worldwide. Nebraska students and families can attend the free performance at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Nebraska Union Auditorium.

Husker Watch Party

A Husker Watch Party will take place one hour before kickoff at Memorial Stadium, Gate 24, the evening of Sept. 21. Families can bring a blanket to watch the Huskers take on Illinois on the big screen of the stadium.

Free admission to Morrill Hall

From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21, families can visit Morrill Hall for free as part of as part of the Smithsonian’s 15th annual Museum Day Live. The free tickets can be found here.

Husker DogFest

This year’s Husker DogFest will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 21, south of Memorial Stadium and Manter Hall. The event will feature tours of the new Canine Cognition and Human Interaction Lab, demonstrations of dog obedience, police dogs and dog frisbee tricks, and dog-related vendors.
