First-gen waffle breakfast
The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor will host a welcome back waffle breakfast for first-generation faculty, staff and students from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Willa Cather Dining Hall, Red Cloud Suite.
Along with January’s welcome back breakfast, the university hosts events and programs throughout the year that bring together Huskers who are the first in their family to attend college. Learn more here.
Movie nights at the Ross
Cold winter nights call for catching a movie at Nebraska’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center! The theater, located at 313 N. 13th Street, plays independent and international films year-round.
Coming to the Ross this January is “A Hidden Life,” “Waves,” “AGA,” and “2020 Oscar Shorts.” Students with a valid NCard can also get $1 tickets, popcorn and drinks on Student Night Jan. 23.
Free snacks in the Health Center
The University Health Center’s first-floor kitchen will provide free, healthy snacks and recipes to students from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Thursday throughout the spring semester.
The weekly event, beginning Jan. 16, is hosted by Nebraska’s Nutrition and Health Promotion Association and Big Red Resilience and Well-being.
Bowling at the East Union
Staff, faculty and students can aim for a strike at Lanes N’ Games, the university’s own six-lane bowling alley in the Nebraska East Union.
For a more regular playing schedule, students are invited to join the UNL Bowling League, which meets on Thursday nights at Lanes N’ Games for eight weeks beginning Jan. 23 and ending prior to spring break. Registration ends Jan. 22.
Blue Man Group at the Lied
More than 35 million people worldwide have experienced the surprising and exciting show that is Blue Man Group. The bald and blue trio’s tour features original music, custom-made instruments, surprise audience interaction, and colorful moments of creativity and hilarious absurdity.
The tour will come to the Lied Center for Performing Arts in late January and early February.
