Since its formation in the spring of 2021, the Staff Senate Exploratory Committee has been developing a staff governance body that would represent and advocate for all University of Nebraska–Lincoln staff.

The Staff Senate Exploratory Committee seeks to fulfill the N2025 aim of creating and allowing access to a university-sponsored staff council for staff to provide input on relevant issues to university leadership.

During fall 2021, the exploratory committee, working with Mike Zeleny, chief of staff and associate to the chancellor, drafted bylaws and a proposed method for the formation of a staff senate. The Staff Senate Exploratory Committee seeks to fulfill the N2025 aim of creating and allowing access to a university-sponsored council for staff to provide input on relevant issues to university leadership.

The committee will begin holding listening sessions with staff in early 2022 to gather feedback on the proposed plans. In late spring, staff senate nominations will be sought, for senators’ terms slated to begin in fall 2022. Listening session dates, eligibility requirements, nomination instructions, and additional opportunities to connect with the committee will be posted on the website.

“The recent progress of this committee is an incredibly positive step forward,” Chancellor Ronnie Green said. “It is a priority of the N2025 strategic plan to give staff a voice on campus and provide a clear path for bringing issues that concern staff to the attention of campus leaders.”
