The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s national search for its next vice chancellor for Business and Finance continues with a finalist interview on Oct. 11.

The next candidate is Sidney Evans, executive vice president for finance and administration at Morgan State University. He will be on campus Oct. 11.

Additional candidates will be announced prior to their campus visit.

Evans has 28 year of experience in higher education, including the last eight as Morgan State’s chief financial officer/chief operating officer. Previous experience outside of higher ed include manager and assistant controller for Unisys Corporation, and chief financial officer for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities in his current role include overseeing an annual budget of $290 million and Morgan State’s financial and operating systems. He is also responsible for the university’s five-year, $600 million capital plan.

Evans has worked to make Morgan State’s finance and administrative division a progressive, creative and efficient organization known for supporting the university and effectively communicating with constituents at all levels.

Evans received a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1977, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978.

Nebraska’s vice chancellor for business and finance is the university’s senior business officer and reports to the chancellor. The position is responsible for oversight and administration of the university’s $1.2 billion operating budget, all financial and administrative services, and following university policies, as well as state and federal laws.

The vice chancellor leads operational activities related to the university’s physical facilities and grounds, sites across Nebraska, university police, parking and transit services, human resources, and other business services.

The position serves on the chancellor’s executive leadership team and is a member of the chancellor’s extended cabinet. Learn more about the position and duties.

Evans and the other finalists were selected through a national search. A search advisory committee led by Richard Moberly, dean of the College of Law, assisted with the search. The committee, which featured student, faculty, staff and greater-Lincoln community representation, includes:
