An update of Robert Bresson’s 1966 film, “Au Hasard Balthazar,” with brilliant results, “Eo” is a donkey-driven drama that stubbornly sticks with filmgoers long after the credits roll.

The film opens at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center Feb. 3. Continuing to show is “Living.”

“Eo” tells the story of a gray donkey with melancholic eyes and a curious spirit, who begins his life as a circus performer before escaping on a trek across the Polish and Italian countryside in a journey marked by absurdity and warmth in equal measure. Legendary filmmaker Jerzy Skolimowski directs one of his most free and visually inventive films yet, placing the viewer directly in the heart and mind of the four-legged protagonist.

“Eo,” which is not rated, shows through Feb. 16.

“Living” tells the story of an ordinary man, reduced by years of oppressive office routine to a shadow existence, who at the 11th hour makes a supreme effort to turn his dull life into something wonderful.

“Living,” which is rated PG-13 for smoking and some suggestive material, shows through Feb. 9 at the Ross.
