The cost of a winter coat can be problematic for students on a tight budget. To help students who need it, Big Red Resilience and Well-being and the William H. Thompson Scholars Learning Community are collecting monetary donations to purchase coats.

“The Nebraska winter can be harsh if you don’t have the proper attire,” said Connie Boehm, director of Big Red Resilience and Well-being. “We want all students to have access to a coat, so they have one less worry this winter.”

To reduce potential exposure to COVID-19, the donation drive will be contactless.

“Instead of coats, we are collecting funds this year to purchase new coats from Sam’s Club,” Boehm said.

The university community is encouraged to donate to the Husker Pantry via the University of Nebraska Foundation. Each $25 gift will purchase a coat for a Nebraska student.

To date, the Husker Pantry has already received 85 requests for coats from students. Any current student who needs a coat should contact pantry@unl.edu.
