Two new food vendors opening in the Nebraska Union on March 11 are Chick-fil-A and Steak 'n Shake.

The Nebraska Union will gain two new food vendors when Chick-fil-A and Steak ‘n Shake open March 11.

The location will be the first Steak ‘n Shake in Nebraska. Both vendors will be operated by Georgia-based MSE Branded Foods.

The Chick-fil-A Express restaurant will feature a pared-down menu from the popular chain. It will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Monday through Saturday. Entree items will include the chicken sandwich, spicy chicken sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, nuggets, a wrap and a salad. Side dishes will include waffle fries, fruit cups and side salads. Sweet treats include milkshakes, chocolate chunk cookies and “Icedream” cones.

Consumers ranked Chick-fil-A, Inc. No. 4 out of 100 in Harris Poll’s annual corporate reputation survey in 2018. The company also was recognized for customer experience in the 2018 Temkin Experience Ratings survey and was named on of the top 100 best places to work by Glassdoor in 2017.

Steak ‘n Shake will operate for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Steak ‘n Shake claims the best burgers and milkshakes on the planet because of its focus on quality, using 100 percent beef without preservatives or artificial ingredients, as well as fresh produce. Centered on a food culture designed to provide the highest quality burgers, fries, and shakes, Steak ’n Shake sources, slices, grinds, and provides the freshest and choicest quality ingredients available for all of its menu options.

Hours of operation will remain unchanged for other restaurants in the Nebraska Union, including Subway and Starbucks, which both open at 7 a.m. and offer breakfast items; and Valentino’s and Imperial Palace, which open at 10 a.m. Food truck vendor Mary Ellen’s Food for Soul will serve food in the Nebraska Union through March 15.

The Nebraska Union board voted in April 2018 to offer space to Chick-fil-A and Steak ‘n Shake.

While awaiting building renovations and the opening of the two new vendors, Chick-fil-A and Mary Ellen’s provided food offerings in the Nebraska Union on a “pop-up” basis. Other food truck vendors also operated near Union Plaza on a rotating basis.

With the opening of the two new restaurants, food trucks, including Mary Ellen’s, will resume operations at five previously authorized locations on campus, at T Street near Memorial Stadium, W Street near the Outdoor Adventures Center, Y Street off Antelope Valley Parkway, the Coliseum entrance and the Plaza near Avery Hall.
