Sticking a pin on a map is such a simple thing.

But, after hundreds of Huskers pinpointed their post-graduation destinations on a map during the Nebraska Alumni Association’s Gradfest, the result (above) is an illustration of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s impact in delivering an educated workforce. Here are some numbers about Nebraska’s Class of 2018.

46 — U.S. states that graduating Huskers call home.

75+ — Out of the 93 Nebraska counties, more than 75 will be represented by Huskers earning degrees.

10 — Student graduate profiles featured on the university’s website. From Amzie Dunekacke, an Elk Creek-native who will serve as a Fulbright Fellow in the Czech Republic, to Hadi Pir, a Yazidi immigrant who plans to teach in Lincoln while assisting refugees from Iraq and Syria, these online profiles bring into focus the passion and potential of the Class of 2018.

90+ — Profiles of Nebraska graduates available on the university’s Facebook page.

120 — Minimum number of credit hours needed to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

149 — Years since the University of Nebraska was founded in 1869.

107 — Room number for the Office of the Registrar in Canfield Administration Building. Employees from the registrar’s office are responsible for organizing the diplomas of Nebraska graduates. That work allows Nebraska to be one of only a handful of major universities that hand diplomas directly to graduates during commencement ceremonies. Learn more about this process in the video below.

3 — Commencement ceremonies will be held May 4 and 5. Pinnacle Bank Arena, 400 Pinnacle Arena Drive, will host a ceremony for students earning graduate and professional degrees at 3 p.m. May 4 and one for those earning bachelor’s degrees at 9:30 a.m. May 5. The College of Law will conduct a separate commencement ceremony at 3 p.m. May 5 at the Lied Center, 301 N. 12th St.

2 — Academy Awards earned by filmmaker Alexander Payne, who will deliver the address at the undergraduate commencement and receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts from the university. Overall, Payne has been nominated for six Oscars. Other commencement speakers include: John W. Maag, professor of special education and communication disorders at Nebraska, who will speak at the graduate and professional degrees ceremony; and Nebraska Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Funke, who will address law graduates. Earl and Patricia Scudder, alumni and longtime supporters of the university, will receive the Builder Award during the Nebraska Law ceremony.
