Huskers devour 1,600+ pounds of turkey ahead of Thanksgiving

As is tradition, Dining Services hosted its annual Thanksgiving Dinner Nov. 18 for students.

The meal was served in all dining centers on campus, which means a lot of Thanksgiving staples were prepared, including turkey and pumpkin pie.

Just how much food did the staff of Dining Services prep and cook? Check out the numbers below:

  • 1,656 pounds of turkey

  • 425 pounds of ham

  • 400 pounds of sweet potatoes

  • 380 pounds of yams (yes, there’s a difference)

  • 830 pounds of potatoes

  • 2,300 servings of green bean casserole

And, no holiday meal would be complete without decadent desserts:

  • 34 Pumpkin pies with Whipped Cream

  • 26 Pecan pie

  • 32 additional pies, including French silk, cherry, peach and strawberry rhubarb

  • 9 pans of bread pudding with vanilla sauce

  • 540 Thanksgiving cookies

  • 920 macaroons

  • 150 pumpkin chocolate chip cookies

  • 72 monster cookies

  • 72 red velvet Cookies

  • 16 pumpkin coffee cakes

  • 6 cranberry bundt cakes

  • 100 cinnamon rolls

  • 200 pumpkin cupcakes

  • 24 roll cakes

  • 6 flavored cakes

  • 62 cheesecakes of various flavors, including turtle cheesecake
