Be My Neighbor Day celebrates Rogers’ legacy

Be My Neighbor Day is March 20!
"Be My Neighbor Day" is March 20.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” series and “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” the contemporary PBS Kids spinoff series that continues his legacy, NET invites every Nebraskan to create a community of kindness on Be My Neighbor Day March 20.

The inaugural Be My Neighbor Day aims to encourage acts of kindness and thoughtful ways to be a caring neighbor.

Nebraskans can participate any way they choose, but suggestions include walking a dog, helping with groceries, visiting a nursing home and reading to a young person.

Since Fred Rogers believed that one act of kindness can lead to many, NET wants to spread the word about all neighborly gestures March 20. Participants are asked to take a photo and write a short post about their act of kindness and share it with NET on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using #bemyneighbor.

Gov. Pete Ricketts proclaimed March 20 as Be My Neighbor Day in Nebraska. The proclamation said the day is “a time to celebrate Fred Rogers’ powerful message of neighborliness.”
