Engineering seniors to showcase projects April 24

CSE Senior Design Showcase

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering’s annual Senior Design Showcase will begin at 1:30 p.m. April 24 in the Nebraska Union Auditorium.

Jason Wilkinson, chief technology officer for Firespring, will open the event with a keynote speech. Following opening remarks, 20 student teams will be honored for their work and give presentations on their capstone designs.

“Our creative, driven computer scientists, computer engineers and software engineers have worked extremely hard to create this final showcase,” said Christy Thomas, director of senior design. “We are very excited to share it with everyone.”

The senior design program is a two-semester capstone sequence that all computer science and engineering students complete before graduation. Students enrolled in the course spend the year working in teams of five or six on a computer software or hardware project sponsored by members of local industry or university faculty and staff.

The course is intended to provide students with the hands-on educational and professional experience that comes with contributing to a real-world project. Previous projects have included mobile apps, web-based tools, gaming technologies, augmented reality and machine learning systems.

Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to register by April 17.

Industry members and faculty are also invited to submit project proposals for next year’s capstone course by June 28.
