The Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture Series continues with art critic Robert Mahoney leading a 5:30 p.m. Oct. 4 talk in Richards Hall, Room 15.

The series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students. The talks are free and open to the public.

Mahoney is a veteran New York-city based art critic who provided weekly and monthly coverage of the New York art scene for 20 years through Arts magazine, Flash Art, Art and Antiques, Art in America, New Art Examiner, Sculpture, TIME OUT New York, Artnet online and numerous other publications.

He also served as public information officer for Queens Museum of Art from 1994-1999. Mahoney currently manages his blog, works on a book, “Exposures: 50 Works of Art that Changed My Life,” and writes for Flatlanders, a critical dialogue for Nebraska’s contemporary visual arts.

The remaining lectures in the series this fall include:

• Oct. 11 — Eva Isaksen, printmaking
• Oct. 19 — Emily Godbey, art history
• Nov. 8 — Bonna Wescoat, art history
• Nov. 14 — Linda Lopez and Cristina Córdova, ceramics

The visiting artist or scholar spends one to three days on campus to meet with classes, participate in critiques and give demonstrations. Each lecture in the series is free and open to the public and will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall, Room 15.
