Annual campus steam outages begin May 21

Computer science major Caden Punteney is one of two students recently named an NSRI Strategic Deterrence Intern representing the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is preparing for its annual steam outages.

The centralized steam distribution system must be shut down to conduct required maintenance of equipment, including replacing and upgrading many key components of the university’s utility system.

The outage is planned for City Campus only from May 21-27. The East Campus outage is June 4-10. Both outages depend upon an average weekly high temperature of 60 degrees or more.

Outage dates are scheduled based on decreased student activity on campus. During the outages, there will be no heating and no process steam available in building systems served by campus steam.

Additional information on the outages is available here.

For questions or concerns regarding processes requiring steam, contact Nathan Lampman, utility plant maintenance supervisor, at 402-472-4012 or nate.lampman@unl.edu; or Charlie Griesen, utility project manager, at 402-472-8612 or cgriesen@nebraska.edu.
