Annual battle re-enactment to take place on Halloween

Battle of Marathon
Huskers line up for the Battle of Marathon during the annual re-enactment on the Meier Commons green space.

The Department of Classics and Religious Studies will host its annual Halloween battle re-enactment at 4 p.m. Oct. 31 on the Meier Commons green space north of the Nebraska Union.

This year’s re-enactment will be the Battle of Actium, the showdown between Octavian and the army of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. This famous naval battle effectively ended the Roman republic.

The annual department battle is meant to be an entertaining learning experience outside of the classroom allowing students to connect with one another and engage with history in a fun and hands-on way.

Food from Jimmy John’s will be provided following the event. You can also join the Classics Club the evening before the event for a boat making party at 6:30 p.m. in Andrews Hall, Room 11.

The event is open to the campus community. For more information, send email to unlclassicsclub@gmail.com.
