‘American Organ Symphonies’ recital is Sept. 23

Christopher Marks, associate professor of music and interim director of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will perform “American Organ Symphonies” at 4 p.m. Sept. 23 at First-Plymouth Church, 2000 D St. The recital is free and open to the public.

Marks, a leading scholar and performer in American organ works of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, will perform two major organ symphonies by American composers — the second symphony of Edward Shippen Barnes and the landmark “Symphony in G” by Leo Sowerby.
