Pio Amato (left) in "A Ciambra" will debut at The Ross March 16.

The dramas “A Ciambra” and “The Party” will run March 16-22 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

“A Ciambra” is a bracing plunge into a world in which growing up fast is a matter of survival.

It focuses on a 14-year-old boy, Pio (played by Pio Amato), who emulates his older brother in every way, including his job as a petty criminal.

When both his father and brother are arrested, Pio is determined to prove that he can step up and be the head of his sprawling Romani family.

But a fateful night and a wrenching decision soon test just how ready he is.

“The Party” tells the story of Janet (Kristin Scott Thomas) and her friends throwing a party to celebrate her political ascension while her husband, Bill (Timothy Spall), seems preoccupied.

Janet’s acerbic best friend, April (Patricia Clarkson), arrives and others follow, some with their own dramatic news to share, but an announcement by Bill provokes a series of revelations that gradually unravel the sophisticated soiree, and a night that began with champagne may end with gunplay.

The film is rated R for language and drug use.
