The Office of Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement is hosting the annual 9/11 day of service activity at 3 p.m. Sept. 9 in the East Campus Mall green space located across from the Entomology hall and at 8 a.m. Sept. 12 in the Meier Commons green space in front of the Nebraska City Campus Union.

Volunteers will assist with placing 2,977 memorial US flags in the green spaces on both city and east campus and writing thank you cards for local firefighters, law enforcement and residents at the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Healthcare System.

The 9/11 National Day of service is an event that began in 2002 in remembrance of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001 that saw 2,977 people lose their lives. People nationwide gather together on the anniversary of this day and serve their communities to honor the victims, survivors, firefighters and law enforcement personnel who responded to the attacks.

Sponsors for this event include the Office of Student Leadership, Involvement and Community Engagement, ASUN Student Government, Military and Veteran Success Center and Student Veterans of America University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chapter.
