Claims Counsel Catherine Cano - Class of 2012

  1. Company Name: Fidelity National Title Group

  2. Title: Associate Claims Counsel

  3. How I Found the Job: The job was listed in the Omaha World Herald Classified’s section and it was also listed on a couple online job search websites.

  4. The Interview Process: My brother knows an attorney with Fidelity, so I sent my resume to her along with some questions about the job. She passed it along to the recruiter. I received a call the next day to schedule an interview. It was harder to research than a traditional firm, because there is not a lot of information on their website about the legal side of the company. I also did not know a lot about title insurance. In addition to the information from my brother’s friend, I also did a Google search about this type of position and looked at the Company website to learn more about what they did. I talked about how excited I was to get out there and start practicing after 3 years of law school, and what aspects of the legal profession I liked the most (i.e. legal analysis and litigation based skills).

  5. The Job Offer: I was called back to the office about 3 hours after my first interview, and was told on the phone that it was to discuss an offer. I came back to Fidelity that same day and discussed the offer with the interviewer. After they gave me all of the relevant information, I accepted on the spot and started full-time the next week.
