Sandhills Region of Nebraska

Aaron Mittelstet,an award-winning associate professor of biological systems engineering and a courtesy professor with the School of Natural Resources, is an expert in watershed modeling, interaction between surface and groundwater, water quality and streambank erosion. Several of his studies have examined groundwater and related aspects of the Nebraska Sandhills, such as highway flooding, groundwater levels, drought’s impact on groundwater-fed lakes and Eastern Red Cedar encroachment’s impact on groundwater recharge.
