F. John Hay, an extension educator with the Department of Biological Systems Engineering, specializes in energy, renewable energy and biofuels. He focuses on the feasibility and detailed economic analysis of renewable energy systems for farms, residences and businesses. An important focus area is energy literacy, including wind energy, solar energy fuel and biofuels, and farm energy management. Hay is expanding his educational program to teach about agrivoltaics -- combining agriculture with solar energy. He installed a solar photovoltaic array at his home in 2017 and has held multiple hands-on workshops to teach otehrs about solar design, installation and economic calculations for solar energy systems.
